LG recently launched its G Pro 2 handset which functions as a competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

This new device features impressive specs that rival Samsung's high-end phablet in many ways and offers an experience that is quite comparable. The Note 3 still holds up pretty well against most new devices launched in 2014, however, the LG G Pro 2 could be the first one to give it a run for its money. So how do these two handsets stack up against one another? Here is a brief spec by spec comparison of both smartphones.

Display

The screen is one of the most integral parts of the Galaxy Note 3 as Samsung crafted one of the finest the market has ever seen for the device. The Note 3 packs a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920  x1080 resolution at 386 ppi while the new LG G Pro 2 comes with a IPS LCD 5.9-inch screen with the same resolution at 373 ppi. The lower number can be attributed to the larger screen on the G Pro 2. These two handsets seem to be dead even in this department when it comes to the figures.

Design

The LG G Pro 2 features a plastic design that is similar to Samsung's. The Galaxy Note 3 introduced a new leather-like plastic material for its back plate that has been a big hit thus far. It gives the device a classier look and feel overall and pleased the masses who were complaining about Samsung's missteps in the design department. LG's design is more basic, which grants Samsung the win in this area.

Speed

This is another department where each of these devices seems to be dead even as the LG G Pro 2 and Galaxy Note 3 both come with a Snapdragon 800 chip and 3GB RAM. This easily sets them ahead of the pack in terms of power and speed and keeps them neck and neck with one another. The international version of the Galaxy Note 3 might give Samsung a small advantage as it packs the company's Exynos 5 Octa-core chip.

Camera

The LG G Pro features a 13-megapixel rear camera that comes with LED flash, optical image stabilization, burst mode, and geo-tagging. It can shoot pictures up to 3840 x 2160 resolution. The Galaxy Note 3 also has a 13-megapixel camera that can take pictures at 4128 x 3096. It comes with LED flash, autofocus, Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, and much more. The camera on the Note 3 has more to offer in general, giving it the advantage with the camera.

Conclusion

Both the Galaxy Note 3 and LG G Pro 2 are powerhouses in their own right. But it seems that Samsung slightly beats out the G Pro 2 in most departments. LG certainly wants to take a chunk of the market with its new device, but will almost identical specs be enough to get consumers interested? It also will help that the Note 3 is an older device, which means it will be cheaper to purchase at this point giving it yet another advantage.
