"Gambit" casting news: Gambit may have found his Bella Donna

If recent casting reports are true, Channing Tatum's Gambit may have found his Bella Donna.

According to a SlashFilm report, the role of Bella Donna Boudreaux, the female character opposite Gambit in the movie, has been offered to French actress Lea Seydoux.

Seydoux is set to appear in the upcoming Bond film, "Spectre" as one of the Bond girls and she also was part of "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol." She is also known for her work in "Blue is the Warmest Color," "Inglourious Basterds," "Midnight in Paris" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

The movie, "Gambit," is one of the movie spinoffs of the "X-Men" film franchise, where Gambit is played by Channing Tatum. Rupert Wyatt, who previously directed "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," is helming this film.

According to the report, Seydoux reportedly bested other actresses who were being considered for the role, including Rebecca Ferguson of "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation" and Abbey Lee of "Mad Max: Fury Road."

The character of Bella Donna is a crucial part of the movie. In the comics series, she and Gambit have a long history together, having grown up together as part of two rival organizations - the Assassins' Guild (where Bella's family belongs) and the Thieves' Guild (where Gambit comes from). Bella's father is the head of the Assassins' Guild. Gambit's father is the head of the Thieves' Guild. The two set up an arranged marriage between Bella and Gambit in order to keep the peace between the two guilds. This arrangement, however, goes awry when Gambit kills Bella's brother after they fight in a duel and Gambit ends up being cast away from his community.

Bella, unlike Gambit, is not part of the X-Men. She, however, has mutant superpowers that allow her to do astral projection and blast out plasma beams.

Barely a year away from the movie's release date of October 7, 2016, the movie is set to start production in October in Cajun Country, Louisiana. The movie's script was written by Josh Zetumer. Tatum is also producing the movie together with Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
