'Gambit' Movie News: Producer Learns From Deadpool, Makes Sure Movie has the Right Script

Channing Tatum's solo "Gambit" movie is still happening despite the many glitches that led to its delays, according to its producer, Simon Kinberg.

According to a report of Flickering Myth, Kinberg revealed that the production wants to get the right script in order for the "Gambit" movie to get the treatment that it deserves. The report also quoted Kinberg saying that they are working hard on the script, and it is almost done.

Meanwhile, Comic Book Movie opined that the delay in the production of "Gambit" doesn't really come as a surprise. It pointed out that, at the onset, the planned 20th Century Fox movie already experience several troubles, citing the departure of its first supposed director, Rupert Wyatt, from the film. It did not take long for the movie's second director, Doug Liman, to do the same thing. From then on, "Gambit" experienced many other problems, prompting Fox to withdraw it from its slated showing date.

Kinberg, in an attempt to justify the delays, points out the importance of giving the right tone for "Gambit." He said that he learned big time from the blockbuster "Deadpool," stressing that it is important for a movie to have the right tone and voice for it to be loved by the moviegoers.

"That the storytelling, the actual plots, are sort of interchangeable and disposable, ultimately. If I ask you what your favorite movies are, you're not going to tell me the plot, you're going to tell me you love this character, and so what we've really tried to do with 'Gambit' is make sure we get the voice of that character right, and the tone of the comics 100 percent on the page," Kinberg said.

As far as the lead actor is concerned, Kinberg said that Fox still wants Tatum to play Gambit despite the fact that the movie is taking a lot of time to take shape. Kinberg said that there was a time that they were already set to kick off the production, but, eventually, they felt that they weren't ready for it. Having said this, Kinberg couldn't help but compare "Gambit" to "Deadpool," which saw the new beginning for the X-Men universe franchise. This, Kinberg said, makes them want to ensure that they get "Gambit" right.
