'Gambit' Movie Update: Channing Tatum Getting Card-Throwing Lessons for Role
The Channing Tatum-led "Gambit" standalone film is now moving forward with the actor getting some card-throwing lessons.
"Magic Mike" screenwriter Red Carolin, who happens to be Tatum's close friend and partner in their film production company, was asked if the fans could hear the Gambit accent in the movie. Carolin addressed the matter at hand and went on to reveal some details about Tatum's preparation for his forthcoming screen role.
"Yeah, it probably is a spoiler but you should ask him. I don't think he has it yet. Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do slight of hand and all that, so we're producing that and I'm mostly just writing stuff, both things are female-driven but they're totally different kinds of stories," he told Screen Rant.
When it comes to sleight of hand, Kwong the go-to expert. He was the head magic consultant on the 2013 surprise hit, "Now You See Me," which starred Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, and Morgan Freeman, among others.
Carolin further dropped some filming updates for Gambit, which, according to him, will begin shooting this fall.
"We'll probably start that in late October/November in New Orleans. Rupert Wyatt is our director, he's pretty cool. I think the script is really good. To be honest, I don't watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that we should be making this movie," he said.
"Gambit" is slated to premiere on theaters on Oct. 8, 2016.
