'Gambit' News, Update: Actor Channing Tatum Working on His Cajun Accent in the Movie

Actor Channing Tatum is currently hard at work in preparing himself to portray the card-throwing mutant Gambit in the upcoming X-Men franchise standalone movie "Gambit."

Earlier this week, "Magic Mike" screenwriter Reid Carolin revealed the training which Tatum is currently undergoing to better play the Southern superhero.

"Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do slight of hand and all that, so we're producing that and I'm mostly just writing stuff, both things are female-driven but they're totally different kinds of stories," Carolin told Screen Rant.

It was also found out through the scribe that the 35-year-old is also polishing his Cajun accent. Although Carolin remained mum about this detail, an interview with Tatum with the people from DigitalSpy revealed that he will certainly embody the Southern persona of the mutant.

"It's all being worked on at the moment. I'm from the south, so I know who to go to to find the accent. I haven't found 'the guy' yet, because generally that's how I do accents. I'll find the person that I want to sound like and not just do a generic Cajun accent. So I haven't found the guy yet," the "Jupiter Ascending" star explained.

In the same conversation, Carolin chimed in to drop some important details about the upcoming title.

"This is a standalone movie and it's the story of Gambit and we'll probably gradually integrate that character into the X-Men universe as we go. And as far as what characters from the X-Men universe make it into the movie — we're not exactly sure yet, so we're figuring it out. It's still at the script stage," he said.

"Gambit" is expected to hit the theaters by Oct. 7, 2016.
