'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Release Date, Cast News: Max Von Sydow Joins New Season of the HBO Series
Just this week, it was reported that "John Wick" actor Ian McShane was cast to play a yet to be revealed role in the upcoming Season 6 of HBO's hit fantasy drama TV series "Game of Thrones."
And just recently, a new casting development report surfaced online indicating the inclusion of yet another veteran actor into the growing cast member's list of the popular show.
In time for the return of Isaac Hempstead Wright's crippled character Bran, Max von Sydow has joined the HBO hit to play a role which fans have already met.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the "Minority Report" star will be playing the Three-Eyed Raven. The character was featured in the first three seasons of the series and only appeared in person during the finale for Season 4. Struan Rodger played as the mysterious entity in a rather brief appearance. He was shown as a very old man, instead of a bird, and his body is entangled to the roots of a weirwood tree. He told Bran that he will not help him gain back the strength of his feet, but he will fly.
This won't be the first time that the George R.R. Martin television adaptation has recast a character. Last season, actress Nell Tiger Free replaced Aimee Richardson for the role of Princess Myrcella Baratheon.
As for von Sydow, the actor's screen resume dates back as early as 1949 and he is slated to appear in J.J. Abram's upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens" this year. He has received a number of nominations from various award giving bodies including the Oscar and the Golden Globe.
"Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres 2016 on HBO.
