'Game of Thrones' Season 3 Takes Top Spot at TCA Awards After HBO Adds New Cast Member

"Game of Thrones" won the Television Critics Association award for best achievement in drama on Saturday night, solidifying its place at on of television's best productions.

Speaking to reporters at a TCA press event late last month, executives with HBO stated "Game of Thrones" will continue "as long as there are stories to tell, contrary to earlier reports that the show would last only seven seasons.

"As far as I'm concerned it can go on as long as there are stories to tell," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told reporters during a press conference. "I know there are concerns about catching up with the books."

Just weeks before the awards show took place the show's producers revealed that actress Indira Varma would be added to the cast of the critically acclaimed historical-fiction drama.

Varma is set to play Ellaria Sand, according to Entertainment Weekly. It appears that Sand will serve as a romantic interest for Prince Oberyn Martell, otherwise known as "The Red Viper."

Pedro Pascal was the desired choice for the role, though the casting decision was not an easy choice, as "Game of Thrones," David Benioff and Dan Wiess told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.

"This was a tough one. The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn't easy to find and he won't be easy to stop," they said.
