'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Release Date, News: Movie Reports Slammed by HBO and George R.R. Martin

"Game of Thrones" is certainly on a pedestal when it comes to the TV game nowadays. After ruling the 2015 Emmys, it's hard to imagine what the series can venture out into as fans only seem to keep growing, despite being five seasons in. One of the many speculations include a movie in the works, which would revolve around "Robert's Rebellion." It is said that the story will allow the return of long-dead characters, such as the well-loved Ned Stark, portrayed by Sean Bean, who died at the end of the first season.

A news article released by The Daily Star started circulating recently saying that it got an "exclusive" confirmation from George R.R. Martin about a movie in the works. The reports claim that R.R. Martin spoke about this plan during an Emmy's after-party last Sunday, while clarifying at the same time that he will have little involvement with it. The report "quoted" the author saying, "There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the DB and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do. The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don't write faster." Aside from that, the piece also claims about having a source among production who spoke about the fate of Jon Snow, in which all fans are clamoring for.

However, just as fast this news spread, it didn't take long for official representatives and even R.R. Martin himself to slam down the false report. According to Buzzfeed News, a representative for HBO has already spoken out on the matter, stating, "These reports are false. There are no plans for a Game of Thrones movie (at least not yet)." While R.R. Martin released his statement on his official blog, writing, "Yes, [the report is] completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion."
