'Gears of War Ultimate Edition' Will Come With All 'Gears of Wars' Games

The third-person shooter video game franchise "Gears of War" is releasing an Ultimate Edition on Aug. 25. The Ultimate Edition, according to the game's official website, offers remastered digital surround sound, new campaign content, a concept art gallery, and "modernized multiplayer" which features 60 frames per second, new game types and matchmaking that is skill-based. There will be a total of 19 maps, as well as many customization options.

According to an IGN report, game publisher Microsoft is making the offer sweeter for those gamers who will be purchasing and playing the Ultimate Edition as soon as it is released. For gamers who buy the game and play it online from August 25 until the end of 2015, they will get access to all the "Gears of Wars" games in the series for free. This includes "Gears of War," "Gears of War 2," "Gears of War 3" and "Gears of War: Judgment" which are available for the Xbox 360.

This is all made possible through Microsoft's Backward Compatibility feature which will be made publicly available by fall. Essentially, it meant that Xbox One gamers can play the older console versions of "Gears of War" on their consoles and make use of Xbox One features such as Game DVR, Snap, among others. It also meant that previously-saved games can be kept and accessed on any Xbox console and playing with friends on Xbox Live is also possible. Backwards compatibility for the Xbox One was announced by Microsoft during the E3 2015. According to another report on Forbes, if Microsoft pulls this off, and is able to make any Xbox 360 disc work on an Xbox One, it will be "a major success."

Microsoft also included other Xbox 360 games in its Backward Compatibility list, which are currently only available to members of the Xbox Preview Program.

"Gears of War" Ultimate Edition will also provide access to the coming "Gears of War 4" beta in the spring of 2016.
