Sacramento Kings NBA 2015 News: George Karl Returns as Head Coach

George Karl has replaced Ty Corbin as the coach of the Sacramento Kings. In an announcement made by the team on Tuesday, Karl will become the third coach of the Kings this season, taking over the reins of Corbin, who two months ago replaced Mike Malone.

Karl admitted to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press that he missed coaching.

"I've missed the gym and I love the game. I wanted one more shot to try to win a championship," the well-known coach, who has yet to win an NBA title, said.

For him to accept the coaching offer, Karl left his previous job as a color commentator for ESPN.

Prior to the coaching change, Kings' general manager Pete D'Alessandro wanted to keep Corbin as their coach for the rest of the season, but a 7-21 record by Corbin, worse than their 11-13 start under Malone, prompted D'Alessandro to call up Karl, who coached the Denver Nuggets by the time he was at their front office.

"You get to the point where you say I know who I want to coach the team and he's available. Sometimes, you have to acknowledge what we've done is wrong," D'Alessandro admitted.

Karl will utilize the second half of the season as an evaluation plan so that he can immediately rebuild the Kings in the offseason.

"I think there's enough talent on this team to win games, enough talent to come back and connect with one another in a way that you can be a solid to good basketball team night in and night out," Karl thought. "It will take some time."

Karl last coached in 2013, where he won Coach of the Year honors. However, the Nuggets' playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors prompted them to cut ties with him.

Karl will now coach a squad, which actually started hot before its current slump, headed by DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay.
