George R.R. Martin Releases 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Before 'The Winds of Winter'

Fans of the fantasy world created by author George R.R. Martin have been anticipating the release of the next novel in the series, "The Winds of Winter," which continues the story of the kingdom of Westeros. While it is still a mystery when the novel will be coming out, the author has recently released a different book titled "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," which interestingly enough features the same fantasy world of the hit series, "Game of Thrones," but occurs during a different time with a different set of characters, according to a report in Tech Times.

The new book published by Bantam actually puts together three short stories, "The Hedge Knight," "The Sworn Sword" and "The Mystery Knight," which is all about a knight named Ser Duncan "Dunk" the Tall and his squire, Aegon Targaryen who goes by the funny nickname Egg. Their adventures across the Seven Kingdoms are the focus of the book.

Ser Duncan the Tall is a legendary knight in Westerosi history, according to the report. In the fantasy world created by Martin, he is "one of the greatest knights to have ever lived" having been a Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

The stories in the book, however, tell of Dunk's adventures during a time when he was just a hedge knight and someone whose service was for hire by a lord who is in need of it. Despite this, Dunk is as honorable a knight as can be.

As for his squire, Egg, who is merely a boy in these stories, he will grow up to become no less than Aegon V, a king of the Seven Kingdoms and great-grandfather to Daenerys Tagaryen (a prominent "Game of Thrones" character). The report noted that Egg's adventures and misadventures with Dunk seemed to have shaped his character that he would bring with him when he is king.

Essentially, the book is said to provide a more complete picture of the Westeros world and is recommended for fans of "Game of Thrones" as they wait for the next novel as well as the next season of the TV series.
