George W. Bush's Truck Sold for $300,000, Proceeds to Help Military Families

Former President George W. Bush sold his Ford truck at auction for $300,000 with the proceeds going to a charity benefiting U.S. military families.

The truck, a 2009 Ford F-150 4×4 SuperCrew was sold during the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., with the money from the sale of the truck going to the Fisher House Foundation, which helps service members and their families.

"All proceeds from the sale will go to Fisher House Foundation, which provides no-charge temporary housing for the families of military members being treated for injuries. Fisher House also has scholarship programs available to children and spouses of fallen or disabled veterans," read a statement by The Fisher House Foundation.

Bush revealed that he used his truck on his ranch in Texas. He also signed the passenger side-airbag panel and made a short video of him driving the truck on his ranch.

The 43rd president stated that he usually has someone else drive him around, but that he does get to drive the truck on his ranch.

"I haven't driven on a street in many, many years, but I have been able to drive this truck on my ranch," Bush said during the auction.

The Fisher House Foundation explained on its website that if the truck was not owned by a former president it would go for around $28,000. The identity of the buyer was not made public.

This was the second car at the auction to bring in money for a good cause. The CEO of General Motors sold his 1958 Chevrolet Corvette at the auction for $270,000 with the proceeds all going to charity.

Dan Akerson, the car maker's chairman and chief executive, was at the Detroit auto show on Friday when he presented a check to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity will use the money to help the Morningside Commons, which is located to the east of GM's downtown Detroit headquarters.

Akerson's 1958 hardtop model is considered rare, given that only 9,100 Corvettes were built for that model year.
