German Shepherd Bitten by Rattlesnake while Defending Owner Gets Massive Financial Support From Public

A two-year-old German Shepherd dog named Haus has gotten the attention of dog lovers worldwide as his owners launched a GoFundMe campaign that will be used for the funding of his recovery, FOX reports.

As of this writing, the GoFundMe campaign for Haus has already generated $52,549, a lot more than the original amount needed of $28 thousand dollars for the treatment of his rattlesnake bite. With this, Haus' owner, Donya DeLuca, appealed to those who still intend to fund the dog's treatment to divert their donation to Heidi's Legacy Rescue instead.

On the page of the fundraising website, DeLucas updated the post by saying that she and her family are overwhelmed by the response they get from the public, thanking those who have already made their contributions.

However, she disclosed that they already have more than enough for the treatment of Haus, hence, she encouraged others who have been moved by the story of the German Shepherd to make a donation to the dog rescue organization that paved the way for her and her family to meet and adopt Haus.

"We cannot thank you enough for your support! PLEASE - we feel we have plenty to care for Haus's needs; if that were to change we will let you know. Please INSTEAD of donating here donate to Heidi's Legacy Rescue - http://heidislegacydogrescue.com/donate/so others can find their own Haus. You can even do it in his name. We don't want to take this page down so you can see the story. Any monies above his medical bills will go to Heidis Legacy Rescue and other charities," DeLucas wrote.

On her latest Facebook post, DeLucas said that things look promising for the dog. While it is true that Haus still has venom in his blood, the veterinarians have told her that it is not a setback, much more that they are planning to increase the dose of anti-venom injected on him by as much as four vials a day.

According to the original post of DeLucas on GoFundMe, the two-year old German Shepherd has a special bond with her seven-year-old daughter Molly. Wednesday afternoon last week, the young DeLuca was playing with the dog and her grandma in their backyard. Then, all of a sudden, the girl saw Haus jumping back and forward a few times. It was then she and her grandmother realized that the dog was fending off a rattlesnake.

A few moments later, they saw that the dog had blood in him as he was limping and crying. When the dog was brought to the veterinarian, it was discovered that he had three snakebites.

The DeLucas launched a GoFundMe for the dog after the bills reached $10 thousand dollars on Thursday night.
