'Ghostbusters' Release Date, Latest News: Ivan Reitman Debunks Rumors of Multiple Reboot Films
While Paul Feig has an all-female ensemble "Ghostbuster" reboot film, there is also speculation about a "mixed gender" take on the popular supernatural comedy film.
The news broke out during the New York premiere event for Tom Cruise's latest film, "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation" where screenwriter Drew Pearce spoke about a "gigantic bold idea" about the franchise.
"Obviously it's top-secret," Pearce told MTV News. "But there's a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers ... and Ivan Reitman, who did the original ("Ghostbusters") movie, are going to take that and run with it."
The project, according to Pearce, will be tied with the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" directors Anthony and Joe Russo and will star Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum. He also revealed on his social media account this week that he has not written a script yet because he's too busy.
Reitman recently said that there's only one new "Ghostbusters" movie and that is from Feig.
"There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the 'Ghostbusters' franchise. As the producer of the new 'Ghostbusters' film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new 'Ghostbusters' movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise," he explained.
The next "Ghostbusters" movie is slated to feature Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones on July 22, 2016.
