"Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it's being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia," the report stated.

"Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world."

Sources for the publication hinted that the script has gone through a number of revisions and there's a high possibility that Feig is till tweaking the details.

Boston Herald furthermore wrote that the Slimer will be featured in the reboot project while the reported cameo appearances of original franchise actors Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are still up in the air.

"They are negotiating," an insider told the publication. "But, of course, no one can get ahold of Murray."

Feig's "Ghostbuster" reboot is slated to hit the theaters on July 22, 2016.
