While promoting for his new action-comedy film "Spy," which stars Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law and Jason Statham, "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig revealed that he was offered to take the chance to helm a direct continuation of the "Ghostbuster" movie series. He said that he kept on turning the offer down.

"I just kept turning it down because I didn't know how to do it," he told AlloCine. "The scripts had been written, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I wasn't excited about it."

The director went on to explain his side by saying that it would be too hard for him to take on what already exists and hopes to see a new beginning of the fan-favorite universe.

"I'd rather do it as a reboot so I'm not tied to the old movies," he said. "The old movies are so good, I didn't want to mess with them. And I also want to see the beginnings of this group. I want to see people seeing ghosts for the first time, and how they're going to fight them for the first time, how they develop their technology."

In fact, his take on the supernatural comedy franchise is already nearing its production date. But, in an interview with HuffPost Live, he said that he and his team are still revising the screenplay.

"I don't know why I'm sitting here -- I was literally doing a rewrite of the script in the dressing room," he joked. "We have a great script already, but we never stop tweaking."

Feig is writing the upcoming female ensemble Ghostbuster project with Katie Dippold. Set to appear in the mentioned film are McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in a yet to be announced roles.

Feig's "Ghostbuster" movie is slated to come to the theaters next summer.
