Is Disney Sitcom Switching to Freeform Due to New Mature Storyline?

"Girl Meets World" still has not been renewed by Disney Channel for its Season 4 – but there is no reason yet to freak out. Rowan Blanchard recently shared her optimism that the cancellation rumors may not be true.

Still Unconfirmed

Blanchard, who plays the lead role Riley Matthews in the coming-of-age television sitcom, admitted to SheKnows that Season 4 remains uncertain. She said that they are still waiting for the network to confirm the show's return.

Despite the uncertainty, the 14-year-old actress stressed that they are a little bit secured given the fact that they just finished filming Season 3 and they have more episodes coming out until early 2017. She added that the cast and the people behind show are really optimistic on the sitcom's renewal because they wanted to continue the story.

Blanchard believed that "Girl Meets World" has an important story to tell. She said that it addresses progressive issues that most girls her age are dealing with. She cited that the television sitcom tackles bullying, cultural appropriation, friendship and family, among others.

Moving to Freeform?

In addition to the cancellation rumors that have been circulating in the past weeks, there were speculations that the hit sitcom will switch network. Disney Channel allegedly disapproved the mature storyline of the upcoming season.

According to MNR Daily, some reports claimed that Season 4 will tackle sensitive matters like sex and other adult issues. Since the mature storyline would come opposite to Disney Channel's market, the show has no choice but to find a new home. If the rumors are true, the sitcom will most likely end in Freeform where its prequel "Boy Meets World" is currently airing.

But the rumors may not be true based on Blanchard's recent interview. As what she specified, Disney Channel is yet to give a word, which means the show is not on the verge of transferring into another network.

A representative of Disney Channel also confirmed to TVLine last month that the sitcom is not yet cancelled. According to representative, the third season of the show will air until next year and it is still premature for the network to talk about the fourth season.

Season 3 for Now

While fourth season remains uncertain, fans of the Disney Channel sitcom could enjoy the remaining episodes of Season 3. The Christian Post reported earlier that the cast of "Boy Meets World" will reunite in one of the future episodes to help Riley in making an important decision in life.
