Bill Rancic, Giuliana’s husband, has confirmed his wife’s condition after she underwent breast cancer surgery on Tuesday as the couple waits to hear more on Friday.
Giuliana appeared on “The Today Show” Monday, shocking the audience with her breast cancer diagnosis. The following day, the E! News host has a double lumpectomy and had several lymph nodes removed.
Thursday morning, her husband spoke with “Today Show” host Ann Curry reporting that the surgery “went well,” and praised his wife as being “a trooper.”
Tomorrow, the couple will learn if the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, and will commence a six-week radiation treatment course.
Rancic said he and his wife will look to 2012 with “a new outlook on life and we’re ready to take on the world.”
After the news of her cancer broke, Rancic received a deluge of messages from fans of support and sympathy. Bill Rancic thanked her fans, saying the support has “definitely helped Giuliana get through this.”
He said that Giuliana is recuperating at home after the two-hour surgery.
Appearing on the ABC show Monday, viewers were expecting Rancic to announce a pregnancy since she and her husband have been trying to conceive for over a year. It was because of a mammogram during the in vitro fertilization treatments that the cancer was caught in such early stages.
Despite her cancer diagnosis, Rancic says that it will not prevent further efforts to have a child.
“I still want this baby… because this baby saved my life,” said the 37-year-old. “I truly feel like God was looking after me… If I had gotten pregnant later down the line, I could have been a lot sicker.”
Bill Rancic added, “I think our story has a happy ending and that’s a good thing,” while on NBC. “It’s very treatable, it’s 100 percent treatable when you catch it early and that’s what the main message is I think. You’ve got to get after this thing sooner rather than later.”
