Glenn Beck Following Jesus, Not Obama, by Helping Immigrants, Says 'Morning Joe' Host

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough has praised media personality Glenn Beck for planning to send soccer balls and hot meals to the U.S. border amid an influx of immigrant youth from Central America, saying Beck is not playing by President Obama's handbook, but that of Jesus.

"A lot of people are saying that he's actually playing into Barack Obama's hands, that he's playing by Obama's handbook," said Scarborough, a former Republican Florida congressman, Thursday.

Beck announced Tuesday he will bring tractor-trailers packed with food, water, teddy bears and soccer balls to McAllen, Texas, for the children on July 19. He will be joined by Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). In his party will also be a number of pastors and rabbis.

"He's actually playing by another person's handbook, Jesus' handbook. I mean, this is -- Jesus was very clear," added Scarborough, who was named in the 2011 Time 100 as one of the most influential people in the world. "He (Jesus) said the people that are blessed are those that understand I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I needed clothing, and you gave me clothes."

The immigrant youth have no fault of their own, but they are caught in political crossfire, said Beck as he announced his efforts to help them, according to a report in The Blaze. "And while we continue to put pressure on Washington and change its course of lawlessness, we must also help. It is not either, or. It is both. We have to be active in the political game, and we must open our hearts."

Scarborough said what Beck is doing is "the most Christ-like thing anybody can do, and so for a lot of people on the right who may call themselves Christians, to attack Glenn Beck for doing exactly what Jesus says a Christian has to do, which is to be the Good Samaritan."

Beck said he is getting "violent emails" from people saying he's "betrayed the Republic."

"Whatever. I've never taken a position more deadly to my career than this - and I have never, ever taken a position that is more right than this ... When America stops being good, we are no longer able to be great," Beck added.

Scarborough said, "I think the fact he is sending down tractor-trailer loads of food and clothes and toys and soccer balls to these poor children despite the fact he opposes the type of immigration reform the president is pushing right now makes it an even more noble gesture."
