'God Defines Marriage,' Says Dr. Rick Scarborough, President of Vision America Action

"God defines marriage," said Vision America Action President Dr. Rick Scarborough, referring to the Supreme Court's decision in the United States v. Windsor case that saw the end of the Defense of Marriage Act.

"The definition of marriage is not within the purview of the United States Supreme Court, or any other court, for that matter. God defines marriage. Governments either conform to His will or ignore it -- at their very great peril," he continued in a statement made through Vision America.

Scarborough, who is known for his strong Christian stances on government and political policies, believes traditional marriage was always the way God attended for people.

"Throughout the course of millennia of Western Civilization, marriage has been defined as the union of a man and a woman. In recent years, 38 states have amended their constitutions, most by popular vote, to endorse that definition, which happens to be the only definition that makes sense -- morally or biologically," he said.

"This nation was founded by Christians on a Biblical worldview," Scarborough continued. "The Declaration of Independence -- America's founding document -- acknowledges that rights come from God. Men 'marrying' men and women 'marrying' women isn't among those rights -- regardless of what any court or legislature or politician or opinion poll says!" he continued.

The former Southern Baptist minister calls himself a "Christocrat" who's allegiance is to Christ and not Democrats or Republicans, according to CNN.

He has authored several books regarding his stance on government and the church, and has frequented news programs and "Larry King Live."

"The anti-family left may think it's won an historic victory here. That could not be further from the truth. With its latest illegitimate decision, the Supreme Court will only succeed in renewing the commitment of defenders of marriage and the family, and causing our ranks to swell," Scarborough concluded.
