God Has a Dream Today

"I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. "

These are the fine words of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. during his "I Have a Dream" speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963. He dreamt of a world where all of mankind can be truly equal and free.

As people around the world pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on his birthday and look once again at his dream and reconcilatory words, Christians should also remember once again the dream of God.

God had and still has a dream that one day His children will be able to co-exist together united under His love. God has a dream that His children will realize the love He has given to them and share that love with each other. As it was written in Isaiah 11:6-9, a world where all of mankind live in harmony with each other will come.

"The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."

How can people live in brotherhood depsite the differences in the color of their skin or current religious affliation? When they hear the Gospel of grace, the Gospel of love, and the Gospel of salvation, they will be able to see each other only as God's children. The salvation, which comes through accepting the love of Christ with faith, will surely set us free. The truth is the self-emptying as seen on the cross of Jesus. The Gospel must be proclaimed. "Then you know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)"

The day the knowledge of the Lord covers the earth as the waters cover the sea, we will be free. Free from sin. Free from hate. Free to experience true happiness in God's love at last.

"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

God has a dream today that His Kingdom may come tomorrow.
