'God of War 4' Release Date, News, Rumors: New Installment in Development Confirms Creative Director

A new installment for the well-received action-adventure video game series "God of War" is now said to be in development at Sony's Santa Monica Studio, according to reports.

Santa Monica is "actively working" on a new "God of War" title – an update which came firsthand from the studio's Creative Director Cory Barlog during the PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas, Gamespot.com reported.

When asked further by the audiences for more details on the upcoming game title, Barlog revealed that the new GOW will definitely not going to be a prequel and that it might be a reboot for the series.

IGN, who got the chance to chat with the studio director after the panel, also revealed that fans of the series need have to wait for a little while for the game series to hit the shelves.

"Barlog said he hoped to share more within 'the next year or two,'" the site explained suggesting that the game could arrive sometime in 2016 or later in 2017.

He was pressed on with more questions including the possibility of Kratos, the game's main protagonist, returning. "Barlog was unwilling to answer," IGN said.

Other than the new "God of War" title, Sony's PlayStation Experience event also unraveled several upcoming games arriving for PlayStation platforms. Some of the mentioned are:

  • Persona 5
  • Kill Strain
  • Grim Fandango: Remastered
  • Ultra Street Fighter 4
  • Broken Age
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • The Forest
  • Shovel knight
  • Super Time Force Ultra
  • Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions
  • Darkest Dungeon
