As ISIS continues to terrorize Iraq, a new threat has been issued against the United States as the spokesman for the group gave an interview last week saying they will fight and "raise the flag of Allah in the White House."

"I say to America that the Islamic Caliphate has been established," Abu Mosa, spokesman for ISIS, told VICE Media in an interview. "Don't be cowards and attack with drones. Instead, send your soldiers, the ones we humiliated in Iraq. We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House."

ISIS controls the Syrian city of Raqqa, which it claims is now the capital of the Islamic caliphate. However, the group has recently been heavily involved in taking over territory in Iraq, attempting to drive out Christians and other minority religious groups in the hope of establishing the Islamic caliphate in that country as well. Over 200,000 Christians have had to flee from their homes in order to seek refuge in Kurdish villages.

President Obama pledged support to those suffering in Iraq and authorized targeted airstrikes on Friday.

"We can act carefully and responsibly to prevent a potential act of genocide," Obama said in a speech. "We intend to stay vigilant and take action if these terrorist forces threaten our personnel or facilities anywhere in Iraq, including our consulate in Arbil and our embassy in Baghdad."

Those airstrikes "have been very effective from all the reports that we've received on the ground," U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told reporters. "We're going to continue to support the Iraqi security forces in every way that we can as they request assistance there."

The Kurdish fighters are also reportedly "being rearmed," according to a senior State Department official. They are "getting arms from various sources," the official added. And it's likely that the U.S. will help provide support to those fighters, who are helping keep Christians and other refugees as safe as possible against attacks from ISIS.
