Based on the gospel on Saint Matthew, Godspell has been performed 2,600 times on and off Broadway since its success in the 70s. The original score was composed by Stephen Schwartz. But the People’s Church production (cast of 10) will feature the modern musical arrangement by Alex Lacamoire.

Kelly Garner, a Commercial Vocal faculty member of Belmont University's College of Visual and Performing Arts and a worship leader/artist herself, is the musical director for the production.

"The People's Church wants to reach out to the community," says Garner, "and what better way than through music."

Jason Barton plays the role of Jesus. He grew up performing in such musicals as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where he played Joseph and West Side Story, where he played Tony.
