Miner Todd Hoffman took a huge risk during the past season of "Gold Rush" on the Discovery Channel, risking his health, leaving family behind, and then losing his right-hand man while searching for gold.

"Gold Rush" returns tonight for the mid-season finale, and The Christian Post spoke with Hoffman, who is searching for redemption this season after nearly losing everything. Hoffman spoke about his faith and how God helped him through an incredibly difficult period.

"Well, we were pretty demoralized," Hoffman said about taking his men into the jungle in the hope of retrieving gold. "It was horrible dragging my guys all the way to the jungle and not being able to give them gold at the end. Not only was it scary, but we all came close to death here and there. It just took a toll on our families. The malaria kept our families from visiting. We were lonely, broke, and it was tough."

Hoffman is known for his faith and his passion for taking care of his miners. However, during the jungle excursion, his right-hand man finally had enough and left the crew. It was devastating to Hoffman and the rest of the men. But the lead miner decided not to give up and is willing to do whatever it takes to get back on his feet. He knows that he has God on his side to help through the trying times.

"Through every valley, the Lord can teach you the most lessons when you're having a hard time. It feels like you're more in tune with what the Lord has for you," Hoffman told CP. "We never lost hope, but we came very close. I prayed at the end of that season that God would give us another chance, and He did. That's where we are now – we're starting to rise from the ashes. And it's an awesome feeling."

After losing everything, finances, friends, work, where is Hoffman at now, with regards to his faith?

"Anyone who says they're a great Christian, they probably are not. For me, I'm always a work in progress. I'm a believer saved by grace," he explained. "In a world where I'm on television, I don't have any control on how I'm edited. It's a difficult world for me as a believer through it all. I get lots of emails on how it's encouraged people in their faith because they see a prayer and how I've dealt with adversity. So as long as I get those types of emails, I'll keep doing television."

Hoffman also has a word of advice for anyone planning to tune in to tonight's mid-season finale.

"If you haven't watched the season so far, you better catch up. There are some tough things and some incredible things that you're going to see on the show."
