Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary thriving in the West

MILL VALLEY, Califfornia -- Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary was granted accredited status with its primary accrediting body to offer full degrees at the seminary's Rocky Mountain Campus in Centennial, Colo. With this completion of receiving accreditation approval for all five of Golden Gate Seminary campusus throughout the west, the seminary is now considered a vital growing force in Southern Baptist missionary and ministry efforts.

The Commission on Accrediting of the Associationg of Theological Schools recognized and approved accreditation of Rocky Mountain Campus on Feb. 10. Degree programs of study offered by the seminary are full master of divinity and master of arts in theological studies.

Since its founding in 1944, the Seminary has "expanded its influence beyond its vast 11-state western region and has educated thousands of men and women who are now involved in strategic ministries all over the globe as pastors, missionaries, church staff workers and laypersons."

"This is very significant in the history of Golden Gate Seminary," said William O. Crews, chancellor of Golden Gate Seminary, " There is no other seminary in the United States or Canada that has this kind of approval in as many places." Chancellor Crews desires to lead the seminary to become a more potent force in shaping Christian leaders for the churches of tomorrow and in helping Baptists evangelize the West and the Pacific Rim.

"We feel that this is confirmation of God's provision and plan for equipping leaders for the churches of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. Instrumental to the seminary's growth and development in Colorado," seminary officials said, "has been Mark Edlund, executive director of the Colorado Baptist General Convention."

"God has given the CBGC a vision of being a part of a church planting movement that will totally saturate our state with the Gospel. A major key to the achievement of this vision is quality leadership development," Edlund said.

"These men and women will never have the opportunity to receive training at one of our six residential campuses," Edlund added. Thus a local campus is a necessity. The presence of the now fully accredited RMC in our state is perhaps God's greatest affirmation of the vision and direction He has given us. We are forever thankful that Golden Gate has given us the opportunity to have our own quality seminary right here in the Rocky Mountains."

Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary is a Cooperative Program ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention. It has five campuses, located in Southern California, Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, Arizona and Colorado.

Currently, the Rocky Mountain Campus operates with three fulltime professors and 58 students enrolled in the spring term.

The seminary's goal is to develop leaders who have sound theological knowledge and the ability to minister in the 21st Century.
