Several people have suffered minor injuries when a runaway electric golf cart drove unmanned from an end zone to midfield and struck a group of people after a Texas high school football game.

The incident took place at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, after the Texas 5A Division II football championship game where Spring Dekaney beat Cibolo Steele, 34-14.

Seven people received attention from medical personnel at the stadium, all with minor injuries. One man had to be taken to a local hospital with an apparent leg injury, according to Arlington Fire Lt. Darrel Whitfield.

A Texas sports league official has said a male staffer also was injured when the cart raced across the field during on-field celebrations after the championship game, according to AP. The staffer's injury is not thought to be serious. The Texas official wished to remain anonymous.

One of the individuals run over by the golf cart was Spring Dekaney coach Willie Amendola. Amendola was being interviewed near the Cowboys star logo at midfield along with several other people clustered near him moments after the game ended.

Footage of the incident, which was captured by Fox Sports Southwest, shows the runaway cart as it careens into a group of people huddled at midfield. A shocked Amendola is shown falling backwards into the cart's passenger seat as it continued rolling.

He appeared to try to gain control of the cart, spinning the steering wheel with his left hand, but was unsuccessful. He bailed out of the cart and onto the artificial turf moments before another person on the field jumped into the driver’s seat and stopped the cart.

An announcer is heard commenting on air as he witnessed the cart’s path of destruction: "We have a disturbance down the field. Apparently one of the carts on the field got loose and I think there have been some folks injured in this. Oh my! That's like a runaway cart there.”

Others were seen on the ground afterward as emergency personnel rushed to the scene. It was unclear why or how the cart began moving under its own power.

Stadium workers were picking up fluorescent orange sideline yard markers and pylons in one of the end zones after the game when the cart unexpectedly took off.
