Gonzaga had a wake up call in their second round match and will be refocused tonight to try and ensure they make their way to the Sweet 16 round with a win here. Southern proved a stern test for Gonzaga in the second round and nearly caused a stunning upset. However, Gonzaga managed to hold off the tenacious Southern team and claimed a 64-58 win to make it through to tonight's third round tie in Salt Lake City.
In that second round tie Southern looked to have an upset in their sights when they pulled level with Gonzaga with less than four minutes left on the clock. Kevin Pangos's three-pointer and two free throws in the final two minutes proved to be the difference between the sides.

Gonzaga will know they will have to be better going forward in the tournament if they are to fulfill their No. 1 seed status.
Gary Bell Jr. and Pangos scored 11 and 16 points respectively, but Elias Harris struggled somewhat, managing only 2 for 10 for five points, although he did pull down eight rebounds. There generally were areas for improvement across the court for Gonzaga, and they will be hoping to put in a big game today to send a message to the rest of the competition at this year's NCAA.
Meanwhile, Wichita State came through to the third round easily, smashing Pittsburgh 73-55 in the second round. However, they will know Gonzaga is an entirely different prospect, and they will expect a much more difficult game today.
If the Shockers do pull off an upset here tonight then they will make their second Sweet 16 since 2006.
