Google Android 5.1 Lollipop OS Update Rolling Out to Second-Gen Moto E LTE Variant Smartphones
Owners of the second generation 4G LTE device, the Moto E, are in for some sweet treat as reports indicated that Motorola is now rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the said smartphone.
According to a report from GSM Arena, the new firmware update will arrive to the phone as build 23.11.15. A number of users cited by the tech review website said that units with model number XT 1527 have already received the notification for the mobile operating system update.
However, the site noted that users need to be a little bit patient as the OS update is expected to arrive in stages. To check if it is already available for download and installation, they can head over to the device's Settings and then to the About Phone section.
For a refresher, the Motorola Moto E was launched in February this year as the company's low-entry LTE smartphone which sells at $149.99, unlocked.
It has a 4.5-inch display with 540 x 960 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 1 GB worth of RAM, a 5MP primary camera, a VGA front-facing camera, and an 8GB expandable internal memory storage space.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop update meanwhile will give the device a host of improvements like in the Android Runtime (ART) aspect which will now launch applications even faster.
An enhanced Device Protection is also coming along the OS patch. In the events that the device got lost or stolen, it will be permanently locked even after a successful factory reset. The device can only be used again if the user signs in to his or her Google Account.
