Google Android M OS News, Details: New OS to Focus on Optimizing RAM and Battery Performance
The highly anticipated Google I/O 2015 event is already drawing near and there's still a sparse quantity of rumors as to what the tech giant will likely to cover in its keynote speech. However, a recent slew of reports from tech websites pointed out that Google is apparently eyeing to further improve RAM usage and battery life on its upcoming mobile operating system, dubbed as Android M.
The OS, which is internally being referred to as Macadamia Nut Cookie or MNC, is expected to debut as a dev preview during the said I/O event.
The report, which this publication cited from Android Police, said that the claim of a battery and RAM-focused firmware update is still unsubstantiated. The media outlet however noted that their sources "have been reliable in the past." Regardless of which, readers should take this news with a proverbial grain of salt.
"Google is apparently urging its own teams to focus on battery performance by cutting location checkins when possible, trimming down RAM usage, and reducing activity off-charger and when the device's screen is off. Presumably this renewed focus on performance will extend to Google's own Play Services package, which frequently manages to wiggle its way to the top of battery usage stats," the report continued.
Aside from the features mentioned above, earlier rumors said that the new OS will offer native support for fingerprint scanners. The functionality is said to debut in Google's upcoming Nexus project which the public is expecting to given some light on the forthcoming event.
Google is expected to reveal all the concrete details on MNC as well as the new fingerprint feature at the I/O which will take place in a couple of days.
