The return of the venue to Googleplex marks a special purpose. This year is Google IO's 10th anniversary. Google had previously held the event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

NDTV sees other possible reasons for the change in venue. The publication speculates that it could be seen as a new beginning for the company that is now under Alphabet Inc. Or it could mean Google needs space to demonstrate its self-driving car.

Google IO 2016 will last for three days during which developers will participate in code labs and other activities. Google will have the event livestreamed and have I/O Extended events for those developers who can't make it to Mountain View.

Last year, Google announced Android M, and this year, it's expected to show off a new Android version, currently dubbed Android N. The upcoming Android version is reported to feature multi-window support that developers and other tech enthusiasts should be able to preview at the event.

A keynote may also provide updates on apps, cloud products, Google Glass, Cardboard, Android Wear, VR, and other projects that the company is working on. Some also expect Google to provide updates on the pair of operating systems for its IoT devices, Brillo and Weave.

Pichai has shared very little beyond the event's date and venue., but he did promise to share more details in the coming weeks.
