Google Leaks Ice Cream Sandwich OS Launch Date, October 11

The launch of Android's latest OS, Ice Cream Sandwich has been confirmed for October 11 directly by Google.

Early morning on October 6, a streaming event placeholder titled "Android ICS Launch" was placed on the Android developers YouTube page, detailing that the live event would begin in four days and 19 hours.

Samsung and Google are hosting their "Samsung Mobile Unpacked: Google Episode" media event on October 11.

TechCrunch notes that the placeholder is somewhat vague, just reading "Android ICS Launch," and not mentioning anything about the Mobile Unpacked event, but commentators have made the connection that the launch and the event are most likely one in the same.

Speculation has indicated that the Ice Cream Sandwich OS would be unveiled alongside the latest Android smartphone, Google Nexus Prime.

However, reports now say that the launch of the Nexus Prime has been delayed and won't take place at the Mobile Unpacked event.

The streaming event placeholder has since been taken down, but commentators are abuzz that Ice Cream Sandwich launch OS date has been confirmed.

Until now, the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich had been estimated for late October, but no specific date had been suggested.

The Ice Cream Sandwich OS was recently leaked when an eBay shopper allegedly bought a Samsung Nexus S device that was powered by the new OS. The shopper leaked video of the OS to Engadget.

The leak has revealed that the Nexus Prime may feature a Facial Recognition Lockscreen and that Ice Cream Sandwich’s other specs may include a Movie Studio app, an app called "People," which is speculated to be a "Contacts" update, panoramic photo option as well as "Backup" and "Reset" options.

The Nexus Prime is expected to be the first smartphone powered by the Ice Cream Sandwich OS, despite the phone associated with the leak being a Nexus S.
