Google Nexus 8 Reports Suggest Launch is Imminent

The Google Nexus 8 release date could be on Tuesday, Aug. 19 in New York City, according to the latest reports. Several sources believe that the successor to the popular Nexus 7 could be announced at a technology event.

The Google Nexus 8 release date rumor came from PCAdvisor, who speculated that the tablet could be coming as early as this week. The timeline fits, since the Android 4.4 KitKat and the Nexus 7 were both unveiled around the same time last year. A video by TK Tech news also showcased what looks like the latest in Google's tablet technology.

The Nexus 8 will most likely have an nVidia Tegra 64-bit processor, a MDM9x25 chip for 4G – LTE capability, NFC and GPS abilities, 4GB RAM, the newest Android L operating system, an 8MP rear camera and a 1.6MP front cameras, according to TK Tech News. The tablet will also have an 8.9-inch display, 2048 x 1440 resolution with 221 dpi, and retail at around $400 – about the right range for a high-performance tablet.

Part of reason release date rumors have ramped up recently is because of the new device spotted by the National Research Agency in South Korea. The model number 0P82100 appeared on the new device and the upcoming 8.9-inch Nexus tablet known the Flounder or HTC Volantis, according to Android Origin.

In addition, an import-export database revealed that a Nexus 8 prototype was on its way to Banglore, according to GSMInsider. All these factors point to an imminent Nexus 8 release.

However, take all rumors with a grain of salt. Some believe that the August unveiling could be a joint venture between HTC and Windows to make a Windows Phone One M8 smartphone. In addition, Android L hasn't yet arrived, which means the Nexus 8 would have to be release with Android 4.4 KitKat, which came out over a year ago.
