Google Nexus 9 This October or Q4 2014, Full Aluminum Frame by HTC Design

Google's next full-size tablet, the Nexus 9, is rumored for a release sometime this October, or if not then before the year ends. There are also indications that the tablet could be manufactured by HTC this time and is speculated to stand up against the Apple iPad Air.

With HTC in the helm of construction, the Nexus 9 could be following the design principles seen in its flagship smartphone range, the One M7 and the One M8. If so, the Nexus 9 should be seeing a full aluminum body construction, much like the materials in which the iPads and the iPhones are made.

As for the specs, nothing is official yet as neither Google nor HTC has made any announcements, but there are rumored features floating around different websites.

The screen will reportedly be an IPS LCD 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1440. This puts its pixel density at 281 pixels per inch but screen resolution could be higher.

The Nexus 9 could also be moving away from the Qualcomm chipsets, instead going with the Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset, with a quad-core 2.5GHz Cortex A15 processor and a ULP GeForce Kepler GPU. There will be two internal storage variants – the 16GB and the 32GB – and will be equipped with 2GB of RAM.

Camera will only be an 8-megapixel snapper compared to the higher 20-megapixels of higher-end smartphones but it will be able to record videos in full HD at 30 frames-per-second.

As for the operating system, the Nexus 9 could be skipping Android 4.4.x and go straight to the newer Android 5.0 (or Android L). If this is the case, then it is possible the tablet will be released alongside or after the release of Google's next mobile operating system.
