Google Nexus Prime Release Date: Launch Delayed Because of Apple Patents?

Samsung’s Google Nexus Prime smartphone was supposed to be unveiled this week at the company’s Mobile Unpacked event, but has now been delayed due to complications.

Originally the electronics company stated that it decided to not announce the new phone out of respect for Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, since he passed away last week.

“We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing,” Samsung had said.

But this is not the only reason its unveiling was delayed, according to blogger Eldar Murtazin.

Murtazin stated that this delay may be due to the fact that Google is experiencing some patent issues with Apple over its device and operating system.

Google is attempting to cut out any features on its smartphone which may be subject to Apple’s patents before the company releases the highly anticipated device.

“Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 are under question. Google removing some features which are subject of patent war. No timeline for this job,” Murtazin tweeted earlier today.

According to 9to5Google, Murtazin is a fairly reliable source most of the time.

And this seems to be one of those times where Murtazin is incorrect with his information.

According to a recent update on 9to5Google, Google plans to send invites out for the smartphone’s debut in the next day or so, and it has also confirmed that there is no delay due to patent issues.

No official information has been confirmed by the company regarding the device’s specs or release date.

The Google Nexus Prime handset will go head to head with the iPhone 4S when it is released.

It is likely that the two smartphones will become the new leaders in the market; battling for smartphone supremacy.
