Google Pixel 2, Pixel XLSpecs Reviews: Here's Why Google's New Smartphones Are the Talk of the Town

Since they were announced, Google's new Pixel 2 and 2 XL have been the talk of the town due to their interesting features. While both smartphones continue the tradition of most smartphones, they introduce some major changes that other smartphone makers have yet to beat.

The new Pixel 2 and 2 XL are among the first smartphones to sport the Android 8.0 Oreo, giving a boost to Google Pixel's reputation when it comes to Android excellence. In terms of hardware, Google Pixel 2 proves to be more traditional because of its boxy design. It comes with a 5-inch 1080p OLED screen and huge top and bottom bezels. On the other hand, Pixel 2 XL is much bigger and looks far more elegant because of its curved glass panel, which drapes over its 6-inch P-OLED display.

Both Pixels use the high-end Snapdragon 835 chipset and come with 4 gigabytes (GB) of random access memory (RAM) and the Adreno 540 graphics processing unit (GPU). The handsets are also encased in glass-and-metal bodies, with their glass "windows" featuring 12-megapixel (MP) camera bumps. Both Pixel 2 and 2 XL are also available in 64 GB and 128 GB options, but they do not offer options to increase the designed storage with a microSD card.

As for their displays and sound, Pixel 2 boasts of its AMOLED screen, which gives crisper and more vibrant images. Its 1080p panel is just enough to show the smallest details of photos, and its viewing angles are just as great. Meanwhile, Pixel 2 XL's screen is more pixel-dense but displays less vibrant images compared with the other handset. The colors it produces also look flatter than those produced by other phones on the market.

When it comes to performance and battery life, both the Pixel 2 and 2 XL work incredibly fast, particularly because of their high-end Snapdragon chipsets. While Pixel 2 sports a 2,700 mAh battery, the 2XL sports a 3,250mAh battery — both of which allow the handsets to stay alive for a day and a half when used sparingly.
