Google Pixel 2 vs OnePlus 5 Specs: Which Flagship to Wait For?

There is a bunch of flagships coming this year. Two of those are the Google Pixel 2 and the OnePlus 5, which are proving to be quite the heavyweights based on the information revealed out of the rumor mills.

The OnePlus 5 is said to be the one to watch, looking at the acclaim its predecessor, the OnePlus 3T, has received. According to reports, the flagship will boast a dual-curved display with Quad HD resolution.

There is not much information about the Google Pixel 2 on this department although there are murmurings about the software giant's plans for the smartphone's design.

It is being said that Google will make the next Pixel flagship waterproof and dustproof. There are also rumors that the Google Pixel 2 will ditch the headphone jack too.

The OnePlus 5 is expected to be water and dust resistant only so in terms of build, users will get the most of the Google Pixel 2. It is unknown at the moment if the Chinese company is going wireless for the audio experience of its next offering too.

Under the hood, both the OnePlus 5 and the Google Pixel 2 are said to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor, Qualcomm's latest and most powerful.

The OnePlus handset will pair it up with 6 GB random-access memory (RAM). Google is expected to match that with its Pixel 2 although the company is also looking to use Intel chipsets as well on its next-generation mobile release.

In the imaging department, the OnePlus 5 is rumored to get a massive 23-megapixel (MP) rear-facing camera. There are also rumors about a dual camera setup.

The Google Pixel 2 is expected to up the ante in this aspect. The original is already praised for the efficiency of its 12.3 MP snapper, but it is believed that new camera features and better response to low-light conditions are waiting for the Google Pixel 2.

On the software side of things, it is Google Pixel 2 that has the advantage. Google is the developer behind the Android firmware and is keen on bringing the latest build to its own releases first.

There is word that the Android 8.0 Oreo will be preinstalled in the Google Pixel 2. The OnePlus 5 is expected to get this software at a much later date though.
