GoPro Hero 4 Release Date: Mid-October Launch, Black and Silver Variants

The GoPro company is expected to release its next highly-anticipated sturdy action camera, the GoPro Hero 4, sometime in mid-October. The new camera is to succeed the GoPro Hero 3 and is rumored to have double the processing power, higher 4K resolution capabilities, and a built-in touchscreen display.

While the features have many GoPro fans excited, it unfortunately won't be found on the same camera and instead will be on two separate GoPro Hero 4 variants. The GoPro Hero 4 Black will get the 4K resolution capability while the GoPro Hero 4 Silver will be getting the touchscreen display.

The Hero 4 Black will be able to capture videos in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, a nice increase from the Hero 3 Black's 15 frames per second. With the substantial increase in the video capture frame rate, other resolutions will also be getting an increase in FPS. 2.7K resolution at 50fps, 1440p at 80fps, 1080p/960p/720p at 120 fps. 240fps for 720p resolution was previously rumored but it appears the cameras are incapable of doing that kind of frame rate.

Among other features, the GoPro Hero 4 is getting an improved audio recording capability, able to capture twice the dynamic range. Three different FOV settings can also be found, Ultra Wide, Medium, and Narrow. The usual photography controls are also there, ISO limit, exposure, and shutter speed.

Also, being an action capture camera, the Hero 4 will also be built to withstand more rigorous activities and extreme weather conditions such as hail or storms and also will be waterproof up to 40 meters. Accessories from previous GoPro cameras can still be fitted onto the Hero 4.

For the price, it is expected to be more expensive than the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition ($399.99), retailing at $499.99.
