'Gotham' Casting News, Update: Actor Michael Chiklis Cast as Captain Nathaniel Barnes in Season 2
The upcoming second season of Fox's hit crime-fighting TV drama series "Gotham" is expected to see a horde of new villains coming over to terrorize the city.
Addressing during the recently-held WB/DC TV panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Danny Cannon said that the "rise of the villains" eventually occur "when people start to feel power within themselves and don't feel the urge to answer to morality."
Cast member Ben McKenzie also explained during the event that "as the villains rise, there's an arms race, and the good guys have to increase their force as well."
"There's be new heroes introduced," the actor, who plays the fearless Detective James Gordon, teased.
And indeed, a new casting news update from TV Line's Michael Ausiello indicated that the show has now tapped into "The Shield" actor Michael Chiklis to play the part of Captain Nathaniel Barnes.
Chiklis will appear as a series-regular in Season 2. His police officer alter-ego is described by the show's producers as a character that "lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham's police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon [McKenzie], Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon … but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy."
"Gotham" Season 2 premieres this Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
