'Gotham' season 2: Season 2 further develops the origins of 'Batman'

"Gotham" is definitely up for an exciting season 2. Despite the criticisms on its first season, it didn't stop the show from securing a second and, likely, a third season, as well.

News have already circulated on the Internet about what could be expected from the Batman-inspired series. Despite the development of some villains in the past, big bad ones will be more prominent than ever in the upcoming season, as they start to take over the city and cause chaos everywhere. It's no surprise that the theme of season 2 is "The Rise of the Villains." However, it seems that viewers will not only see the development of villains but of Bruce Wayne's, as well.

Screenrant reports that the latest trailer shows Bruce Wayne, played by David Mazouz, alongside his caretaker Alfred (Sean Pertwee), seemingly exploring a cave. Although it's not confirmed, many suspect that it is under the Wayne Manor and would eventually evolve into his Batcave. Although the clip was too short for any definite details, it will be quite a jump from what viewers have seen of Bruce. Fans agree that young Bruce's story has been the least interesting so far, and so this teaser for the iconic superhero may stir more interest.

However, the show has always been clear in pointing out that since the beginning it is about the downfall of the city of Gotham, and how it has crumbled into a shadow of its former self when Batman comes to salvage the wreckage. Thus, fans can expect more of this. Furthermore, actor Ben McKenzie who plays James Gordon, revealed during the Wizard World Chicago some news that Batman expectants would not like to hear. He is quoted saying, "The last frame of the last shot of the last scene of the last episode of Gotham, whatever season that may be, is Bruce putting on that cape." From this, it's safe to assume aficionados of the masked crusader will never get to see their hero in action all throughout the show's run.

The season 2 of Gotham is set to premiere on Sep. 21, Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
