'Gotham' Season 3B: Bruce's Training Under Alfred Continues

Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is still far from becoming the Dark Knight in the upcoming second half of the current season of "Gotham."

In an interview with CBR, Mazouz said that his character will need to undergo intensive training under his loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), before he becomes the iconic superhero. According to the actor, Bruce is definitely not ready to take that journey, as his caliber is nowhere near Batman's level and Alfred has lots to coach him on. Although Bruce has mastered the martial arts, he is still not prepared mentally and emotionally. He has also yet to make up his mind on what he wants to do in the future. Alfred still needs to teach him the rules and help him understand what is at stake.

"In the next episode, you see Bruce continue his training. ... There's his guidelines and figuring out what he's going to do. At this point, Brue is still figuring out who killed his parents and doing anything to get that answer and bring the people responsible to justice. I don't think he's made that decision to help save Gotham from the evil that transpires. He will make the decision, and it will happen fairly soon, but it hasn't happened yet," Mazouz said in the CBR interview.

Meanwhile, all through this ordeal, Bruce will lean on Alfred, his friend and father figure, who will make sure that his path to becoming Batman will encounter no hitches.

According to Pertwee's interview with The Arts Guild, Bruce's transformation as Gotham's hero is akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes. The actor shares that the city will have to "reach the bottom of the barrel" for the supervillains to surface. When Gotham becomes a "really bad place" to live in, this is the time when Bruce will step up and save his people. One of his first targets is Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), aka the Joker, who will return to finish what they have started.

"Gotham" season 3 will return on Monday, April 24, at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
