'Greenleaf' Season 2 News and Updates: Second Season Coming Next Summer? New Executive Producer Hired by Network

The new drama TV show "Greenleaf" has no doubt made waves when it premiered earlier this year. With a growing fan base, the show has been greenlit for a Season 2 and everyone is excited about it.

Season 1 Success

The Oprah Winfrey Network has been undoubtedly feeding its viewers with completely revolutionary and unconventional television drama shows this summer. One such case is "Greenleaf", whose first season wrapped up last August.

The plot of "Greenleaf" revolved around the titular Greenleaf family living a very scandalous life full of secrets and lies. The show dives into the gritty world of a Southern megachurch in Memphis with primarily African-American members. The first season ended with a total of thirteen episodes.

Merle Dandridge (who plays Gigi Greenleaf), Lynn Whitfield (Lady Mae Greenleaf) and Keith David (James Greenleaf) have all been praised for their performances in the show. With their characters' morals and religious beliefs clashing in almost every episode, along with their relationships with the other members of the family, fans are kept at the edge of their seats with every turn and revelation.

Season 2 Confirmed

Fans need not to worry about the fate of the show though as it has long been set for a second season. Back in April, even months away from the official June premiere, "Greenleaf" was confirmed for a Season 2 release. This was announced by the network runner and show executive producer herself, Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey also has a recurring role in the first season of "Greenleaf."

Even without any episode on air yet, Winfrey has decided that the show is worthy of airing more episodes due to its compelling and progressive storyline. Since the show premiered in June, fans and critics have praised "Greenleaf" as it just kept getting better with every episode.

However, not only will "Greenleaf" be renewed for a second season, but fans will actually get to see more of the show. A report had previously stated that the season 2 of "Greenleaf" will showcase a total of 16 episodes, three more than the previous season.

New Executive Producer

Along with the renewal, "Greenleaf" has also hired a new executive producer. A report has stated that Kathleen McGhee-Anderson will be joining the production team of the show. She will then be working alongside the current executive producers of "Greenleaf": Craig Wright, Clement Virgo, and Oprah Winfrey herself. This could only mean good news for the fans as McGhee-Anderson is known for her works such as "Soul Food" and "Sunset Park".

No premiere date yet has been set for "Greenleaf" Season 2. However, fans are assured that it will indeed happen as production is set to start this fall. This would then mean that the second season will be premiering next summer.
