Greenway Named President of Asbury Seminary

The Board of Trustees of Asbury Seminary announced the appointment of the Dr. Jeffrey E. Greenway as the Seminary’s Sixth President.

Greenway, formerly a member of Asbury Seminary’s Board of Trustees, comes to Asbury from the Pittsburgh East District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church where he is the District Superintendent.

He received his B.A. from Mount Union College in 1982, an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1985, and D.Min. from Wesley Theological Seminary in 1999. In 1984, Greenway was ordained deacon and probationary member of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference in 1984, and ordained elder in 1987. He has a pastoral experience as a student pastorate during seminary and youth ministry, and a pastor to his current position of District Superintendent.

“I am humbled and honored to be entrusted as the custodian of the Seminary’s mission of ‘preparing well-trained, Spirit-filled, sanctified, evangelistic men and women’ for mission and ministry around the world,” said Dr. Greenway.

The new president, whose appointment is effective July 1, is a delegate to two General conferences, and a Chair of the Discipleship legislative Committee at the 2000 General Conference, as well as a delegate to the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Northeast Jurisdictional Conferences. He will be a delegate for this year’s upcoming General Conference to be held this spring.
