Greg Laurie to Hold First Long Island Outreach

Evangelist Greg Laurie will be holding his first-ever evangelistic outreach on Long Island this weekend with the help of some 170 local churches and 1,500 local volunteers.

"Harvest 09 at Jones Beach" will also be the first large-scale evangelistic outreach to visit the area since 1990.

"There is a new spirit of cooperation among the local churches on Long Island to work together for a cause that is bigger than any of us," said Steve Tomlinson, pastor of Shelter Rock Church in Nassau County, according to Laurie's ministry. "We believe the Harvest with Greg Laurie outreach at Jones Beach will help make an eternal impact on the community."

Since Laurie founded the evangelistic Harvest events in 1990, the Southern California evangelist and pastor has drawn more than 3.8 million people to stadiums and arenas in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Furthermore, more than 314,000 people have registered decisions of faith in Jesus Christ through Laurie's Harvest Crusades.

For this weekend's event, some 40,000 invitations have been distributed locally.

Like all other Harvest Crusades, "Harvest 09 at Jones Beach" will feature nightly messages from Laurie as well as music from top Christian recording artists. The June 13-14 event, specifically, will feature Grammy Award-nominated band P.O.D., Kutless, Delirious, and Jars of Clay.

"We have a stellar lineup of music," reported Laurie Friday, "and I will bring a gospel message each night."

"Please be in prayer as we bring the gospel to the people of Long Island, New York for two nights."

To keep those unable to attend "in the loop" each night, Laurie's son, Jonathan, will be providing updates through blog posts and Twitter.

And, like all Harvest crusades, "Harvest 09 at Jones Beach" will be streamed live via Harvest's website, harvest.org.

For those attending in person, gates open Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET and the kick-off time is 7 p.m.

"Harvest 09 at Jones Beach" will take place at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, Long Island.
