'Grey's Anatomy': How Many Seasons Are Left for Long-Running Show?

While fans have been waiting for the arrival of the new installment of ABC's hit medical TV drama series "Grey's Anatomy" this fall, latest casting renewal information hints a possible number of seasons left for the scripted program.

A report from TV Line indicated that Jessica Capshaw, the actor who plays Dr. Arizona Robbins, has been "inked a new three-year-contract" with the long-running series. Capshaw's contract has ended back in May prior to the renewal.

The new contract signing, according to the media outlet, will expect to see the 38-year-old's character at the popular Grey Sloan Memorial hospital "until May 2018."

This is despite the fact that the show has only been renewed by the network only until 2016.

An ABC representative was asked by the publication but declined to dish in concrete details about Capshaw's contract issue with regards to the show's number of future seasons.

Meanwhile, it has also been expected that Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres, among other members of the cast, will be back soon at the negotiating table "as their current deals expire next May."

ABC President Paul Lee previously expressed his enthusiasm of keeping the show alive in the small screen.

"[It's] not the final season of either," Lee said, who also pointed out the cabler's other hit show, "Castle." "And I would like to see them run for many, many years to come. They're both powerful, vibrant brands with incredibly passionate audiences."

As for the now so-called "post-Derek" Grey era, creator Shonda Rhimes told the press that the show will be treading on an "uncharted territory."

"The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning," Rhimes said.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is slated to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
