'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Release Date, Plot Rumors: Annet Mahendru to Appear in the Show

ABC's popular medical drama TV series "Grey's Anatomy" will return with its brand new season this coming Sept. 25 and is reported to consist of 24 episodes.

Season 11, as revealed by showrunner Shonda Rhimes, will particularly tackle the life of the main character Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) as "she's lost her 'person,' her [half-]sister has shown up, her husband is chafing to go someplace else."

It was further disclosed that Rhimes intended for the latest installment to pick up right where Season 10 has ended, and even went to say that she and her team of writers are doing some flashbacks on the younger days of Dr. Ellis Grey (Dr. Meredith Grey's mother) and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).

Fans can also expect in the forthcoming season how the relationship between Dr. Grey and Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) will go.

"I'm not going to say that Meredith and Derek are never going to break up," she told TV Line.

"I'm not going to say that simply because we're writing a story and we're on this long, long journey," the executive producer added. "I've learned never to say absolutes about anything anymore. People always say, 'Seven seasons ago you said ...' Well, I didn't think we'd still be here," the EP added.

Meanwhile, latest casting rumors indicate the slated guest appearance of "The Americans" star Annet Mahendru in one of the episodes of the show. She broke the news herself via her social media on Aug. 29.

"Had fun @GreysABC today ;) #GreysAnatomy," she tweeted.

Mahendru is best known for playing the role of the Soviet mole/triple agent named Nina Sergeevna on FX's "The Americans."

However, the Russian-Indian actress's role in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 hasn't been revealed yet.
