'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Cast News, Rumors: Katherine Heigl to Return as Izzie?

Several reports have sparked rumors pointing out to the purported return of Katherine Heigl's Dr. Izzie Stevens in the upcoming 12th season of the hit medical TV drama series "Grey's Anatomy." As it turns out, it won't happen.

Heigl recently clarified the ongoing rumors of her re-emergence in the series as well as giving her thoughts on the shocking death of the character of her former co-star Patrick Dempsey, Dr. Derek Shepherd.

When asked about the truth of the matter, the 36-year-old actress replied right off the bat, "There is not, I'm sorry."

Interestingly, she also shared her reaction about Dr. Shepherd's departure in the show's Season 11.

"I just can't imagine the show without McDreamy," Heigl told Entertainment Tonight. "It's just so hard to picture."

The "Jackie & Ryan" star went on express her gratitude for the opportunities that the show has given her.

"This 13-year-old girl was telling me this weekend how much she loves Grey's Anatomy, and I was like, do you realize you were a 1-year-old when we started the show? It's been that long since it's been on the air. It changed the course of my life and my career, and I couldn't be more grateful. I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to," the actress said.

Despite her recent clarifications on the issue, Heigl revealed in previous interviews that she would still love to wear Dr. Izzie's scrub suit.

"If they want me to return for an arc, I would love to know where Izzie is now," the mother-of-two told TV Line previously.

For the meantime, "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is slated to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
