Last week's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" shocked viewers as Callie and Arizona— often referred to by fans as Calzona— broke up.
After Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) went to therapy, they were advised to go on a trial separation. Although Arizona realized how important their marriage was, Callie decided to break things off for good.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sara Ramirez explained Callie's decision.
"What Callie decides is that she doesn't want to fix it or fix them anymore. That's what she decides," said Ramirez. "I think Callie reaches her breaking point. The exercise of being apart for all that time, she initially resisted, but ultimately it becomes an eye-opener for her, to see how much happier she is outside of the relationship, which is not something she expected, or wanted necessarily, but she finds a lot of freedom from all the issues and the difficulty that they just can't seem to resolve or find a solution for."
In other news, "Grey's Anatomy" will be taking a hiatus this week and will return on Nov. 6 with a brand new episode titled "Don't Let's Start."
In the episode, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) stops by to tell Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) that she has finished reading Ellis' journals. Meredith will be forced to invite her half-sister Maggie to dinner, upon the insistence of Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Though she agrees to do so, it's clear that Meredith is not a fan of this idea. Meanwhile, April (Sarah Drew) will get an unwelcome visit from her mother, but her husband Jackson (Jesse Williams) will bond with his mother-in-law.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 11, episode 6 airs on Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
