'GTA 6': Rockstar Games to Launch Game in 2020?

"Grand Theft Auto," or more commonly referred to as "GTA," is one of the most successful game franchises without a doubt. However, developers might take more time to launch another new release for the title. It might not even happen until 2020.

It is safe to say the game "GTA" does not lose its appeal, even going three years now without a new title launch. In fact, it has been announced last month that the game is still selling copies and has reached the 75 million mark.

However, it does not mean that players are not looking forward for a new game. In fact, the "GTA" fan base has been asking for it for a couple of years now. According to recent speculations, developer Rockstar Games might prefer to wait a couple years more, just in time for the release of next-generation consoles.

Video game enthusiasts have recently speculated that "GTA 6" will arrive at the start of the next decade along with more improved consoles that Value Walk dubbed as the PlayStation 5 from Sony and Xbox Two from Microsoft.

Developers have also been very quiet in tackling "GTA 6." No specific details about the gameplay or narrative have been shared yet, which could also mean that the title still has a long way to go before its release.

In fact, one of the latest official mentions of "GTA 6" dates back to 2013 when Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies confirmed that they already have several concepts for the game. However, he was also particular in saying they "don't know what GTA 6 will be" in an interview with Develop Online.

Though the statement from Benzies did not provide any much needed hint, it is still a good thing for players and fans to learn that "GTA 6" is in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, despite the developers' quietness about the topic, players are still forming speculations on the possibility of having a female main protagonist for "GTA 6." While Rockstar Games has yet to address that, it can be recalled that "GTA" co-writer Dan Houser once discussed with The Guardian their perspective on adding a female protagonist.

"We didn't really think about it [for 'GTA V']. That's not to say that we couldn't or we wouldn't ... In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course. ... It didn't feel natural for ['GTA V'] but definitely for the right game in the future – with the right themes, it could be fantastic," Houser explained.
