ROM, according to Screen Rant, isn't from Marvel Comics but the studio was given license from Parker Brothers to create a "ROM: Spaceknight" series which span for over eight years. After 75 issues, the license was reverted back in 1986.

Earlier reports already indicated that GOTG 2 will once again see the entire five heroes namely Star-Lord (played by Chris Pratt), Gamora (by Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (by Bradley Cooper).

SuperheroHype meanwhile cited Gunn mentioning a number of cosmic Marvel characters which were speculated by fans to likely appear in the next installment. The names include Beta Ray Bill, Starhawk, and Adam Warlock.

The 44-year-old helmer also pointed out his intention to include more female players into his share of the MCU.

IGN, who also shared the news, speculated that the female superheroes could be Mantis, a Guardian and former member of Avengers. There's also Moondragon, the daughter of Drax and then Quasar, particularly the female Quasar Phyla-Vell.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to open in theaters May 5, 2017.
